Dog Fences

When owning a dog it can be a challenge to figure out how to keep your dog from roaming from your backyard or their set "doggie area". Training your dog to stick around is an issue that many people find hard to overcome. Fencing your backyard in is one way to help accomplish this task.

There are a few issues to consider when choosing the type of fencing you will go with:

  • The Dog's Size - many times it's harder to keep a smaller dog fenced in then a larger one
  • Dog's Athletic Ability - depending on how agile your dog is, the height of the fence may need to be higher
  • Dog's Inclination to Dig - some dogs just love to dig, and that can cause quite a problem, considering they will dig under your fence
  • Cost of Fencing - There are many different types of fencing out there, and some are quite costly compared to others
  • Neighbours Stance on Fencing - it's best to check with your neighbours if they live close by to make sure it's ok with them
  • Your Region's Building Code - Generally every town or city has their own set of regulations governing the building of a fence
  • Invisible Fencing? - There's a ton of people who swear by this method, it's generally cheaper than building a physical fence and you may prefer this over the traditional fencing

There are many supplier's of dog fencing and you'll find that if you search around you can get some good deals. Keep in mind, if you have a smaller dog, you are pretty limited to the styling of the fence if you choose a wooden one. A board to board fence is going to be your best option of that type, because the interweaving design will allow for them to sneak out between the boards.

If you choose to try out the invisible dog fencing method, there are some really good models out there. This one that can be purchased securely from amazon has great reviews and seems like a very decent deal: PetSafe Wireless Instant Fence Pet Containment System
